The initial damage is higher than Aura of Darkness, however, the damage over time effect is far weaker and shorter. It still may be in one's interest to learn this skill as a means of single-target burning. Otherwise, a Hell Fire mage should take a look at Ocean of Fire or Burning.
DOT damages the enemy every second, each time around 30% of max magic. It is worth noting that the DOT of this spell is stronger than Ocean of Fire.
